Case study template
Quantified Carbon, in collaboration with leading Nordic researchers, presents the latest update of Sweden’s national scenario analysis. The report outlines possible pathways to a 300 TWh electricity system, clarifying the strategic choices, trade-offs, and conditions required. It provides a clear, high-level picture of how Sweden can build a resilient, competitive, and climate-aligned power system for the future.
the problem
Sweden faces critical strategic choices in planning a future electricity system capable of supporting national prosperity and the climate transition. Policymakers must navigate conflicting goals and interests, clarify long-term priorities, and define a coherent vision for a system expected to reach 300 TWh of consumption.
the APPROACH
Quantified Carbon, working with around twenty researchers from five Nordic universities, developed an updated scenario analysis commissioned by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. The team modelled multiple plausible futures for the Swedish electricity system, assessing their characteristics and the enabling conditions required to achieve them.
the oUTCOME
The report provides a clear, structured understanding of the possible development paths for Sweden’s power system. It highlights the implications of different strategic choices and presents a coherent picture of what is needed to build a resilient, competitive, and climate-aligned electricity system.
